Travel Health Clinics and Travel Vaccination Centres

Travel Health Tropical Island

Your Hub for Travel Health Services

Travel health clinics and travel medical centers are your hub for travel health services, from general public travel health information and guidance, to specific vaccinations recommended by professionally-trained travel medicine staff stationed there.

These travel medicine specialists can advise you on travel health and immunization requirements, travel advisories and travel warnings, any special travel health precautions that you may need to take, and other public health information that is recommended by public health centers such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (or CDC) or the Public Health Agency of Canada (or PHAC).

They will be aware of the particular travel health risks associated with your travel destination, including any infectious diseases which may be endemic or prevalent in that geographical area, as well as any general health precautions which should be undertaken when travelling in that area.

They will also be able to suggest particular immunization requirements a country mandates. Some countries even require a certificate of proof that a course of vaccination has been completed before entry into that country is permitted. The travel doctor would be able to ascertain which travel health vaccines are especially prudent to take given the recent disease history and current infectious disease climate of your travel destination, and will advise you accordingly.

Ontario Health Insurance (OHIP), Travel Vaccinations, and Travel Clinics

In general, Ontario Health Insurance (OHIP) does not cover vaccines for travel or travel health consultations at travel vaccination centres.
However, vaccination against many common travel diseases such as Tetanus, Meningitis, Polio, Hepatitis B, Chicken Pox, Measles, and Mumps (amongst others) are part of the routine childhood immunization schedule in Canada, and are covered by Ontario Health Insurance. Rabies Vaccine is also covered by Ontario Health Insurance, but is not part of the routine immunization schedule.
